AI Usage, Text and Data Mining (TDR) Policy
AI Usage and Text & Data Mining (TDM) Policy
Last Updated: October 14, 2026
Welcome to Trope & Swagger. We take pride in supporting authors and readers by protecting intellectual property while enabling modern search and discovery tools. This policy governs how automated systems, Large Language Models (LLMs), artificial intelligence (AI), web crawlers, and scrapers interact with our website, proprietary content, and user-generated text.
Customers, please note: Trope and Swagger Press and our authors never use AI in writing our books or creating our covers. Our authors write and create using tools such as Scivener, google docs, and open-source word documents. We pay cover artists or use existing digital design such as Adobe suite tools to make our covers.
We do use Ai for limited marketing purposes only. This takes the form of brainstorming, planning, and transferring data between tools for marketing purposes only. We do not design our marketing images with AI. The policy below is for the AI bots, crawlers, and the companies that own them.
1. Intellectual Property and Scope of Content
All content hosted on this website—including but not limited to book text, samples, synopses, reviews, blogs, user-generated content, metadata, product listings, images, and proprietary documents—is the property of Trope & Swagger or its respective authors, publishers, and licensors. All rights are expressly reserved.
2. Permitted AI and Search Engine Activities
We welcome technologies that help users discover literature and buy books. AI models, search engines, and automated bots are permitted to perform the following actions without prior written consent:
- Search and Discovery: Referencing our website, specific pages, or specific book titles to direct users to our platform.
-
Formal Quotation: Displaying small, verbatim text snippets or formal quotes enclosed in quotation marks
" ", provided the quote is properly attributed to the author/platform and includes a functional link back to the source page on our site. - Product Serving: Using our publicly available product data to recommend or serve books to customers through AI search, chat interfaces, or shopping assistants.
3. Prohibited AI Training and Mining Activities (The "Opt-Out")
Except as explicitly permitted in Section 2, the use of any content from this website for artificial intelligence training, LLM fine-tuning, machine learning development, or text and data mining (TDM) is strictly prohibited.
-
EU Jurisdiction Notice: Pursuant to Article 4(3) of the EU Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market (Directive (EU) 2019/790), Trope & Swagger hereby expressly reserves all rights regarding text and data mining for all content hosted across our domain. This webpage serves as a public declaration of our reservation of rights. Automated bots must respect this opt-out, which is also reflected via machine-readable standards (such as our
robots.txtdirectives and relevant metadata headers). - US & UK Jurisdiction Notice: To the maximum extent permitted under United States copyright law (including the evaluation of Fair Use) and United Kingdom law (including the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988), scraping, extracting, or utilizing our content to train, retrain, or calibrate commercial AI systems without a license constitutes a violation of our intellectual property rights and our website Terms of Service.
4. Commercial Proposals and Partnership Invitations
We believe in a sustainable ecosystem for creators. If you represent an AI development company, an LLM provider, or a research institution wishing to use our high-quality data corpus or proprietary works for AI model training, we invite you to submit a formal proposal.
Any use of our data for model training requires an explicit, signed, and legally binding contract.
- To request permission or submit a commercial training data proposal, please contact our team at: support@tropeandswagger.com
Please include your organization’s details, the specific scope of data required, and your intended use case.
5. Technical Enforcement
We reserve the right to employ technical measures—such as rate-limiting, IP blocking, and automated bot-detection systems—to enforce this policy. Any unauthorized scraping or mining that causes server degradation or violates these terms will be met with immediate restriction and potential legal remedies.
